Australia Impressive On Day One of 2011 Youth Trans Tasman

 

18's Girls

Australia has won the first game of the Youth Trans Tasman Series, winning game one of the 18’s Girls division seven touchdowns to three.

After going to the half-time break leading 2-1, Australia further extended its lead in the second half, to take the first of three games in this division.

Australia scored touchdowns through Melissa Peters, Ashleigh Quinlan, Sarah Peattie, Kate McCarthy, Rylie Seamark, Tracy Hill and Simone Smith. Marama Davis scored a hat trick of touchdowns for New Zealand.

18's Boys

Australia has lost the first 18’s Boys game after the match went to a drop-off, eventually losing 11-10.

In a tight encounter, New Zealand came from behind to take the win after both teams scored in their first set in the drop off, before Ihaka Watene scored the winning touchdown.

Matthew Couper was impressive for Australia, scoring five touchdowns on debut.

20's Girls

Australia has taken a one-nil lead in the 20’s girls division at the 2011 Youth Trans Tasman Series, with a comprehensive 13-2 win over New Zealand.

Australia took the early lead, and proved too strong in their opening encounter with captain and flag bearer Emilee Cherry leading by example, being one of three players to score two touchdowns.

20's Boys

Australia has taken day one of the 2011 Youth Trans Tasman Series three games to one following a win in the 20’s Boys division on Friday night at Viking Park.

After trailing 4-1 at half-time, New Zealand hit back in the second half to level the game at six-all with minutes remaining.

Australia dug deep in the dying minutes to take the win and put them in in a good position going into day two of the event.
